Could I Be A Candidate For Invisalign?

TeamInvisalign

More than 15 million people, including 4 million teens, have already chosen to improve the alignment of their teeth, the function of their jaw, and the appearance of their smiles with Invisalign. So, if you’re interested in correcting crooked teeth, gapped teeth, slanted teeth, crowded teeth, or a bite issue such as an overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite, you may wonder if you could be the next candidate for Invisalign. Read on to learn if correcting your smile with Invisalign may be an option for you.

Requirements for Invisalign

To be considered a candidate for Invisalign your dentist will need to confirm the following.

You are not missing any teeth

If you are missing teeth, you are not a candidate for Invisalign.

You have all of your adult teeth

If your teen doesn’t yet have all of their adult teeth, they will need to wait until all permanent adult teeth have erupted.

You have a healthy mouth

If you have any type of infection, such as gum disease, you will not be eligible for Invisalign treatment. However, infections and gum disease can often be treated with non-surgical treatments such as root planing and scaling (deep cleaning), which will then make you eligible for Invisalign.

You are willing to take charge of your results

Patients who are considering Invisalign need to be disciplined about wearing their alignment trays at all times, except when eating. Failing to wear your trays for at least 20-22 hours per day will significantly delay your results.

You will be responsible for caring for your alignment trays

Parents are often concerned about their teen losing their alignment trays. So, Invisalign is best suited for responsible teens and adults who can be trusted to keep their trays in a safe location at all times.

You do not have a severe overbite or underbite

Invisalign can correct mild to moderate bite problems. A severe overbite or underbite, however, may be best treated with traditional braces.

You do not have dental implants or dental bridges

Patients who have dental fillings or crowns may be great candidates for Invisalign. However, patients who have dental bridges or dental implants are not ideal candidates for Invisalign treatment.

What You’ll Get from Invisalign

If you’re an adult who previously had braces but you have experienced drifting teeth over time, you can reclaim that aligned, straight smile you miss. Or, if you’re an adult who never had orthodontic treatment as a teen, Invisalign offers you the opportunity to discreetly improve the appearance of your smile.

Invisalign can offer noticeable results within just a few weeks. For those who just have a couple of crooked teeth, treatment may be fully completed in just months. Nearly all patients complete treatment within 18 months, with most completing treatment in 12 months.

All patients will benefit from greater comfort than traditional braces offer. Moreover, you’ll be able to eat anything you like, since your Invisalign trays are removable. Finally, you’ll enjoy being able to brush, floss, and care for your teeth normally while undergoing treatment with Invisalign.
